Scent Story: On the chilly eve of Winter Solstice, a large piece of dried lightly charred oak is gathered from the woodshed. The last remnant from the twelve days, the year prior. With twine, fragrant bundles of cinnamon sticks and dried orange slices with cloves are tied to the log to release a fragrant spice. Dashes of cardamom, maple sugar and black pepper are sprinkled on the log for prosperity. As its carefully lit, an Old Norse incantation is said while placing bay leaves inscribed with runes on the fire for a blessed Yule.
